Students at Jefferson High School (JHS) in Alexandria are planning an “Empty Bowls” fundraiser on Thursday, March 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the school cafeteria.
Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort that works to end hunger. Craftspeople and others in the community work together to create handmade bowls. Guests are then invited to a meal in exchange for a cash donation for one of the handmade bowls as a reminder of all the people with empty bowls worldwide.
A ticket for a bowl created by a JHS pottery student is $10. Along with the bowl, the attendee receives chili, bread, water and a cookie. The bowl can be kept by the user.
Only 120 bowls will be made. However, additional tickets for the meal only can be purchased for $5.
To purchase tickets, call Community Education at (320) 763-3310 or visit their office at 1410 South McKay Avenue.
The money raised at the event will go to the Douglas County Food Shelf.
