The 7th annual Rudy Zwieg decoy show is set for Saturday, March 5 at the Holiday Inn in Alexandria from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event brings more than 40 of the best spearing decoy carvers from the Midwest.
Other craftsmen will also sell handmade items. Every year a carver is honored for his or her talents. This year, the carvers of the year are Dewey and Judy Grove of Brandon. They have been carving and painting for several years.
The show will also have carvers competing in the National Fish Decoy Association. There are seven classes to be judged and two junior division classes. Fish are judged on their swimming ability and artistic merit. A swim tank will be on site and the public is welcome to watch.
Zwieg was a resident of Douglas County, a lifetime carver and is honored with having his work displayed at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.
The event is sponsored by the Midstate Chapter of the Minnesota Darkhouse and Angling Association.
Raffle tickets and silent auction items are also available. Admission is free.
