Shelby Iverson, Shanee Herd and Claire Illies all scored goals as Alexandria goalie Stephanie Drown notched a shutout and the Cardinal girls emerged with a 4-0 win over Fergus Falls in the Section 6A finals at Detroit Lakes Friday night.
The win gives Alexandria its second straight appearance in the State Class A tournament set to begin this week.
Herd and Iverson both scored in the second period, with Herd's goal coming on an assist from C. Illies and Iverson's on an assist from Becca Illies.
C. Illies then scored in the opening seconds of the third period on an assist from Herd and Iveson scored again as both Illies girls shared in the assist.
The Cardinals had 20 shots on goal while Fergus Falls rattled off 28 shots at the Alexandria net, all of which Drown stopped in the win.
Alexandria will now play on Wednesday at the Xcel Energy Center in their opening round of state tournament action against an opponent yet to be determined.
