Polar Plunge to take place on Lake Darling

Plan on taking a plunge into the icy water of Lake Darling Sunday, February 27 to raise money for a special cause.

Local law enforcement will present the “Polar Bear Plunge,” which raises money for Special Olympics Minnesota. Statewide, the event is scheduled at 14 locations in Minnesota throughout January, February and March.

In Alexandria, the Polar Bear Plunge will take place on Sunday, February 27 on Lake Darling at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center.

The actual plunge is set for 2 p.m. with registration set from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Lake Itasca Room at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center.

There is a minimum donation of $75 per person to take the plunge.

A post-plunge hog roast party is set for 4 p.m. at the Elks Lodge in Alexandria. The event is free and open to the public. A freewill donation for food will be received, with all of the proceeds donated back to Special Olympics.

Keith Melrose, an Alexandria police officer and local organizer of the event, noted that at last year’s event, more than 200 people participated with more than $44,000 raised.

The Polar Bear Plunge in presented by Minnesota law enforcement as part of their year-round Law Enforcement Torch Run events that support Special Olympics.
