Middle school math league teams celebrate strong season
The Discovery Middle School (DMS) Junior High Math League team recently completed its season.
The Discovery Middle School (DMS) Junior High Math League team recently completed its season. Part of the West Central Division, the team competes in five meets starting in September and ending in January.
The DMS team has two divisions – one for 7th and 8th graders, and one for 9th graders.
The teams are made up of six members. Each takes two individual exams and then a team test. The team score is the accumulated score of all individual exams for each member and the team round.
The Junior High League is a starter program for the senior high league. It is set up with the same scoring but problems are appropriate for the age groups.
After this year’s five meets, the DMS 7th and 8th grade Red team took second place. The DMS 7th and 8th Black team placed fifth. Eric Branch, 8th grade, took second place, while 7th grader Matthew Bittmann took ninth place.
The DMS 9th grade Red team took second place. Marissa Wheeler placed eighth.
Members of the 7th and 8th grade team include Mitch DeLaRosby, Matthew Bittmann, Carl Branch, Mitch Maday, Eric Branch, Jake Wheeler, Wyatt Riesselman, Diane Campbell, Tyler Kay, Halley Score, Marisa Otto, Marisa Larson and Abby DeReamer.
Members of the 9th grade team include Emily Haan, Carolyn Lussenhop, Chanse Peterson, Alexis Kokett, Ben Tollefson, Lauren Hagstrom, Destiny Bartolomeo, Marissa Wheeler, Elizabeth Tagatz, Abby Nelson and Melissa Drown.
