Renowned guitarists to perform

Dan Mahar and Billy Dean, guitarists and singers, will perform at two locations in Alexandria February 18 and 19.

• Friday, February 18 at 8 p.m. – The duo will perform at Sixth Avenue Wine and Ale, 115 6th Avenue East.

• Saturday, February 19 at 7 p.m. – Mahar and Dean will perform at The Phoenix Event Center, 3904 County Road 42 Northeast. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available at Moore’s Three Havens General Store, Sixth Avenue Wine and Ale, Trumm Drug Downtown and at the door.

Dan Mahar

Mahar was born and raised in the Chicago area. He was influenced by Top 40 radio that focused on songwriting, good singing and arrangements and later by bands with improvisational skills.

Mahar wrote and played in bars, dance halls and ballrooms across the country. In 1991 he signed on to play lead electric and acoustic for Capitol recording artist Billy Dean and for the next four years toured and performed on the Grand Ole Opry, the Jay Leno Show, Austin City Limits and state and county fairs.

He is now a resident of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 2006 he released his first record, “Long Stone’s Throw,” a collection of blues songs.

Billy Dean

Dean moved to Nashville in 1983 and by 1990 had his first top five hit. Since then, he has transcended genres with his unique repertoire, earning numerous music awards.

He has also appeared on numerous made-for-TV movies and television shows, including One Life To Live, Lois and Clark, Wings, Diagnosis Murder, Regis and Kathie Lee, Good Morning America, Nashville Now, the Tonight Show and TNN Country News.

After 12 albums and 11 top 10 singles spanning 18 years, Dean founded the publishing company, BDMG (Billy Dean Music Group). He continues to make contributions to the country music world.

His career was recently recognized with a proclamation from the state of Tennessee House of Representatives.
