Alex gymnastics: Cards take a tumble

Alexandria fell to the Melrose Dutchmen 142.5-132.6 in non-conference gymnastics action

Sophomore Briquelle Bowden picked up yet another all-around title, scoring a 36.8, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Cardinal gymnastics team fell to Melrose 142.5-132.6 Tuesday night on Senior night.

Three seniors are on the Cardinal squad, and Alyssa Jorud, Rachel Moreno and Sarah Sater were recognized for their contributions to the program.

Bowden claimed top honors in two events, winning the floor exercise with a 9.675 and the beam with a 9.1, then added a third on bars with an 8.875 and a fourth on vault with a 9.15.

Seventh grader Tahlia Bowden was fifth in the all-around with a 33.575 as she was fourth on the floor, fifth on bars, seventh on beam and seventh on vault, and Sater was eighth in the all-around.

The Cardinals will now be at the Central Lakes Conference championships on Saturday, traveling to Sauk Rapids-Rice. They will be at the section competition on Friday, February 18.

FLOOR – 1. Briquelle Bowden 9.675, 4. Tahlia Bowden 9.05, 7. Sarah Sater 8.4.

BARS – 3. Briquelle Bowden 8.875, 5. Tahlia Bowden 8.6, 8. Bria Schueler 7.275.

BEAM – 1. Briquelle Bowden 9.1, 6. Sarah Dolan 7.9, 7. Tahlia Bowden 7.15.

VAULT – 4. Briquelle Bowden 9.15, 7. Tahlia Bowden 8.775, 8. Sarah Dolan 8.75.

ALL-AROUND – 1. Briquelle Bowden 36.8, 5. Tahlia Bowden 33.575, 8. Sarah Sater 29.75.

GYMNASTS TUMBLE INTO TOURNEYS

Alexandria will compete in the Central Lakes Conference meet tomorrow, Saturday, at Sauk Rapids-Rice.

They will head to Section 8AA action on Friday, February 18, in Brainerd.
