U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar recently announced that the Regional Extension Assistance Center for Health Information Technology (REACH) in Minnesota has been awarded $744,000 to help critical access hospitals and rural hospitals adopt and become meaningful users of certified health information technology.

The funding comes through the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, within the Department of Health and Human Services.

“Health information technology has the potential to reduce waste, rein in costs, stimulate innovation, and improve quality,” Klobuchar said. “This funding will help expand the use of electronic records that will improve efficiency, protect patient information, and allow our doctors to continue to deliver high-quality care.”

REACH is a nonprofit federal center dedicated to helping providers in clinics, small hospitals, and other settings in Minnesota and North Dakota implement and effectively use electronic health records. REACH works with providers to improve the quality and value of care they deliver by adopting the use of advanced health information technology, including the keeping of electronic health records.
