Letter - It's time for a little kindness in the lakes area

A simple gesture, a kind word, or a random act of kindness can go a long way in making a community a stronger, better place.

To the editor:

A simple gesture, a kind word, or a random act of kindness can go a long way in making a community a stronger, better place.

The Alexandria Kiwanis Club and the Golden K Club are sponsoring the annual Random Act of Kindness Week, February 13-19, in an effort to bring awareness to the power of kindness. It is our hope that everyone will make an effort to perform random acts of kindness until those acts become second nature, and we believe that others are likely to follow that lead and pass it on.

As part of the week-long celebration, area students were invited to participate in a Random Acts of Kindness drawing contest with ribbons awarded to the top two drawings. The contest is an effort to get kids thinking about what constitutes an act of kindness, and how such acts make them feel. Each year, more than 1,000 drawings are entered into the contest.

By observing this special week, it is our hope that people take the initiative to commit some random acts of kindness and to become more conscientious of the needs of others.

Commit a random act of kindness today!
