Are you ready for some fast-action snowmobile racing?

The fifth annual Leaf Valley Speed Rally will take place this Saturday, February 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on north Lake Miltona at the Sandy Beach public access.

The event is a radar run held on a 1,000-foot shaved track, 60 feet wide.

More than 40 classes ranging from Kitty Kat to Open Fuel will compete at this open-to-the-public event. There will also be ATV and motorcycle races. The top three places in each class will receive a trophy.

Another highlight is a Top Speed of the Day contest, which pays cash prizes to the top three places of $500, $250 and $150. Last year's top speed was 146 miles per hour.

The entry fee is $5 per driver for insurance and $20 for four runs with each additional run costing $5.

Spectators are welcome to attend and there is no charge. Food and beverages will be for sale at the track.

All proceeds go to the Leaf Valley Game and Conservation Club, a local community service organization.

Directions from Alexandria: Go north 13 miles on Highway 29, turn left on Highway 14 for three miles, and turn left and go south on Sandy Beach Drive. Signs will be posted on Highway 29 and on County Road 14.
