Barn catches fire
The Evansville Fire Department was called to a farm at 19659 East Abercrombie Trail shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday for a barn that was on fire.
The Evansville Fire Department was called to a farm at 19659 East Abercrombie Trail shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday for a barn that was on fire.
At 10:57 a.m., the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the owner of the farm, Daryl Johnson, about a dairy barn that was on fire.
Firefighters from four different departments not only battled the blaze, but also brutally cold temperatures. The wind chill dipped to 30-below zero Wednesday with actual temperatures 10 below zero.
While on scene, firefighters worked to save bales of hay that were stored in the loft of the barn.
Mutual aid for the fire was provided by the Millerville Fire Department, Brandon Fire Department and the Ashby Fire Department.
According to the sheriff’s office, all livestock in the barn were able to escape the fire. The barn sustained major damage.
The cause of the fire was not known as of press time.
