Osakis wrestling: Silverstreaks have busy week, head for PRC tourney

With a minimum of one wrestler ranked at every weight class, Osakis’ competition at the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City triangular Thursday night was a struggle that saw the Silverstreaks fall 47-18 to No. 4 ranked Kimball and 68-6 to the No. 2 ranked Falcons.

Osakis senior Cody Torkelson was the only wrestler to pick up a win in both matches, earning a pin in the opener against Kimball’s Austin Schiefelbein, and squeezing out a 4-2 decision over 10th-ranked Lucas Damm of ACGC.

Against the Cubs, Austin Rollag won by a 4-2 decision at 135 pounds and Tyler Spanswick picked up a win by forfeit at 145 pounds.

Nikolaj Hagen won his match at 160 pounds by a 7-6 decision.

In the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City match, James Gabrielson earned an 11-5 decision at 152 pounds for the only other win.

Osakis splits

The Silverstreaks split their matches at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle triangular Tuesday night, falling to Eden Valley-Watkins 48-29, but romping over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 70-3.

Trenton Coyer, 103 pounds; Ryan Larson, 119; Nick Wolterstorff, 125; Tyler Spanswick, 135; and Austin Collins, 140; all earned wins in the loss against the Eagles, with Wolterstorff and Spanswick picking up wins, while Larson and Collins had wins by forfeits.

Nikolaj Hagen battled hard against Class A’ No. 3 ranked wrestler, Jacob Forcier, falling in a battle 7-2.

Against the Thunder, the Silverstreaks picked up four victories by forfeit, and another four by pins as Osakis won all but one of the individual matches on the card.

PRC TOURNEY

The Park Region Conference wrestling tournament is set for today and tomorrow, February 4-5 at Bertha

Action begins on Friday with B squad action, while varsity action begins at 10 a.m. Saturday

Cost is $2 for adults and $1 for students for the B squad matches

Cost of the varsity tournament is $6 for adults and $3 for students for an all-day pass, while cost of the championship round is $4 and $2 respectively
