Volunteer opportunities

United Way needs help providing wood for people who are heating their homes with it. If you have wood to donate or are interested in helping to load and/or split wood, call (320) 763-4840. Volunteers are also needed at the Mobile Food Drop on February 24 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call (320) 763-4840.

Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County is recruiting volunteers to help build homes in 2011. There are a variety of opportunities and schedules are flexible. Construction leadership opportunities are also available for skilled individuals. Contact Julie Klopp at julie@hfhdouglascounty.org.

Wing Family Support Services needs male volunteers to help with an after school boys group Wednesdays at Woodland Elementary from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. tentatively starting March 2. Call Alison Miller at (320) 763-6638.

Someplace Safe is looking for volunteers for the Thrift Store and Outreach Office to sort donations, answer phones and do some filing. Call (320) 762-1995.

AAAA Theatre has openings for volunteers to usher for The Dixie Swim Club play February 18 and 19 at 6:45 p.m. or February 20 at 1:15 p.m. Call AAAA.

District 206 needs people to volunteer for the following opportunities:

• Bring puppets to life as they share important issues with elementary students.

• Discuss well-known artists and their paintings in 4th or 5th grade classrooms as a Masterpiece Art Presenter. Lessons provided.

• Have lunch with a 1st-6th grader twice a month at his/her school as a Lunch Buddy.

• Become a mentor to a 5th-9th grade student. Spend about four hours a month together outside of school time.
