Card girls' hockey: North Metro ices Alexandria

A strong second period by North Metro helped the Stars hold off Alexandria in a 4-2 game last Thursday night.

The Cardinals outshot the Stars 37-27 but could not get many of those shots past Kayla Kreuter in net. Kreuter had 35 saves for her team as she helped the Stars pick up their sixth win of the season.

North Metro never trailed in this one. Mariah Ledeen scored three minutes, 22 seconds into the first to make it 1-0. Madison Houska followed with her first varsity goal almost five minutes later to tie things up for Alexandria.

The Stars created some separation in the second. They scored twice on goals from Taylor Anderson and Janessa Maier to give them some breathing room going into the third. They added to that with another goal from Ledeen before Becca Illies got the Cardinals’ final goal with six minutes remaining.

Stephanie Drown had 23 saves for Alexandria.
