Card girls' hockey: Late goal loss
Bemidji scored the game-winner with less than two minutes remaining
The Card girls’ hockey team was not able to celebrate senior day in style as the team fell to Bemidji 5-4 at home on an Erin Booth goal with 1:29 remaining in the third that broke a 4-4 tie Saturday afternoon.
Alexandria jumped to an early 3-2 lead after the first period as Madison Houska, Claire Illies and Alia Kopischke each scored for the Cards in that opening frame.
Rachael Finley scored the Redbirds’ only goal in the second period as the Lumberjacks notched a pair to tie the game at four apiece.
Houska, Illies, Kopischke and Finley all had goals, with Quinn Kragenbring, Becca Illies, Kopischke and Kally Kragenbring each picking up assists.
Lindsey Lien had 10 saves in goal, with Stephanie Drown adding 21.
Alexandria honored seniors Illies, Sam Ellingson and student manager Dylan Koenig prior to the game.
The Cardinals will be on the road to face the St. Cloud Icebreakers tomorrow, Thursday, after having been in Hopkins last night, Tuesday.
