Dorothy Mary Wells, 87, Osakis, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2011 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

Dorothy was born April 7, 1923 in Sheridan Township, Redwood County, to Arthur and Christine (Andersen) McCorkell. She attended Wabasso High School and then married Herbert Wells on July 28, 1945 in Vesta. They farmed for 20 years near Staples, and then moved to Miller, Missouri to try dairy farming there. After a couple of years they returned to Minnesota and did more dairy farming near New York Mills and Verndale.

Upon retirement, they moved to Motley. Herbert passed away on September 10, 1980. In 1999, Dorothy moved to live in Osakis. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Osakis.

Dorothy loved life on the farm and especially enjoyed all of the animals. She always had many pets, especially her cats and dogs. Each summer she kept busy in her garden and she also had a green thumb for raising beautiful flowers. During the winter months she spent many hours making intricate needlework and sewing projects to share with her family and friends. Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by her sister, Kathryn Berg of Sanborn; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Herbert; and two nephews, Brian and Randy Berg.

Funeral services for Dorothy were held on Friday, January 21 at First Presbyterian Church in Osakis with the Rev. Tim Sutton officiating. Interment was at Montrose Cemetery in Staples with casket bearers Marvin, Bruce and Eric Berg, Warren Gramstad, Jack McCorkell and Will Muenchow.

Arrangements were handled by Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis; www.royhetland.com.
