Three Cardinal dancers earn all-conference honors

The Alexandria dance team finished seventh in both the jazz and the kick division at the Central Lakes Conference championship in Brainerd last Friday.

The Cardinal dance teams finished seventh at the Central Lakes Conference meet in Brainerd last Friday, finishing seventh in both the kick and the jazz divisions.

Alexandria had its best performances of the season in both divisions, despite setbacks by injuries throughout the last couple weeks.

“In kick, the girls continue to get stronger, improving their stamina, kick height and execution,” head coach Christine Reilly said. “The scores were not what the team had hoped for, and in a loaded conference, it is tough to break into the upper half.

“The team has been suffering from many injuries and has not had a full team dancing kick for the past two weeks. This certainly affects the team score in choreography, formations and transitions. However, the jazz team was back to full force, and that really helped the overall performance of their routine.”

Alexandria had three dancers named all conference and four more earn honorable-mention recognition. Zoe Weltzin was named to the All-CLC team in both jazz and kick. DJ Parkin joined her on the team in kick, while Heather Schneider joined her in jazz. Jessa Kokett and Heather Schneider were honorable mention selections in kick, while Crosbee Olson and Alexis Kokett were in jazz.

Brainerd won the CLC championship by taking first in both kick and jazz. Sartell was second after finishing as the runner-up in both divisions.
