Viking Speedway honors racers at annual awards banquet
The Viking Speedway held its annual awards banquet last Saturday at Broadway Ballroom, honoring the 2010 season champions in five WISSOTA divisions.
The Viking Speedway held its annual awards banquet last Saturday at Broadway Ballroom, honoring the 2010 season champions in five WISSOTA divisions.
Information on the top 10 drivers in each division can be found under the photographs.
Other honors were also given out at the annual banquet, including:
Rookies of the Year were honored as follows: Tiffany Maus-Krippner in the Street Stock division, Randy Laage in Midwest Modified, Josh Thoennes in Modified and Matt Weisman in Late Model.
The racers in attendance voted for drivers in all divisions for the Sportsman of the Year honors. Winners included Jeff Wildung in the Late Model division, Jason Thoennes in Modified, Corey Tammen in Super Stock, Brian Haben in Midwest Modified and Andrew Bangsund in Street Stock.
A Rollover Award was given to Andrew Bangsund in the Street Stock division, while Modified driver Kyle Koehntop was awarded a Hard Luck Award. Long-time racer Irvin Cook was also recognized for his years with the sport, after announcing his retirement.
Rich Snyder of Winning Edge Graphics awarded lettering certificates to competitors Jon Stepan and Jake Wildman.
It was announced that long-time race supporters DuWayne Nelson and Ron Pease will be inducted into the Viking Speedway Hall of Fame at a race event this summer. Nelson served as a crew member for the late Wayne Kluver and was the track maintenance director at the Viking Speedway for many years. Pease competed at the Viking Speedway for five seasons and served on the board of directors for nine years.
