Winter Lecture Series 2011 planned in Osakis

The first of three programs in Winter Lecture Series 2011 is set for Sunday, January 23 at 2 p.m. at the Osakis Information Center, 11 East Main, Osakis.

The first of three programs in Winter Lecture Series 2011 is set for Sunday, January 23 at 2 p.m. at the Osakis Information Center, 11 East Main, Osakis.

The first lecture is “A Woodcarver and his Stories,” a show-and-tell by Osakis folk artist and woodcarver Duane “Snook” Barrett, a lifelong resident of Osakis. Barrett’s fish and duck decoys will be on display. He will give away two fish carved from red cedar as door prizes.

Admission is free; refreshments will be served.

Winter Lecture Series 2011 is sponsored by the Osakis Area Heritage Center with grants from Runestone Electric Association and Stearns Electric Association.

The lecture series will continue on Sunday, February 20 with “An Old-fashioned Sunday afternoon musicale” at Osakis Lutheran Church, featuring the Gordon Men’s Chorus and the Greater Minnesota Children’s Choir.
