MnDOT asks motorists to be patient as snow clearing efforts continue

The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists in northwestern Minnesota to be patient and continue driving with extreme caution as crews continue to clear ice patches from the most recent storm.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists in northwestern Minnesota to be patient and continue driving with extreme caution as crews continue to clear ice patches from the most recent storm.

MnDOT crews will be out sanding problem areas and removing and hauling snow to selected disposal sites. Extra attention will be placed on removing high snow banks that limit visibility in higher traffic areas such as main streets and intersections on state highway routes.

MnDOT reminds motorists to:

• Slowly approach intersections for a safe stopping distance while watching for other vehicles and pedestrians.

• Keep a safe distance from the snowplows and be aware of what lane they are plowing when on multi-lane highways such as U.S. Highway 2.

• Turn off cruise control and keep headlights on for visibility.

• Use a safe speed for winter driving conditions, regardless of the posted speed limit.

• Keep both hands on the steering wheel, eyes on the road and attention on driving.

For updated information about road conditions, call 511 or go to the website www.511mn.org.
