The Millerville Sportsmen, with the cooperation of the Department of Natural Resources and the Viking Sportsmen, stocked Lake Aaron and Lake Moses with walleye fingerlings last fall.
The fingerlings were purchased from Bosek Bait in Garfield. The Viking Sportsmen and the Alexandria Hotels and Hospitality matched their funds by 70 percent.
Helping to stock local lakes is only part of what the Millerville Sportsmen’s group does for area outdoorsmen. The group is also involved with pheasant releases, pheasant feeding in the winter and establishing food plots. The club helped fund 20 local food plots in 2010.
The group also helps disabled and youth hunters get into the field. It donates to the United Foundation For Disabled Archers (UFFDA) and pays student gun safety fees for youths who want to get their start in the outdoors. The group has three certified gun safety instructors that give gun safety classes each year.
The club meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Millerville fire hall.
