Free tax preparation clinic returns to area

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) encourages low-income individuals to work, while helping struggling families escape many financial hardships.

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) encourages low-income individuals to work, while helping struggling families escape many financial hardships.

Unfortunately only one in four eligible recipients file and claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

United Way’s Community Impact Coalition partnered with West Central Minnesota Community Action and are offering a free tax clinic to connect families to this rebate.

This service is available for families earning up to $49,000 and individuals up to $30,000.

The extra dollars eligible taxpayers can get through the EITC and other tax credits can make life a little easier for many households.

People need to remember that some individuals and families may qualify for the credit for the first time because of unemployment or other changes in their financial, marital or parental status during the past year.

Tax preparation clinics will be held at the United Way Office, 2504 Aga Drive, Alexandria. This service will be available Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the tax season.

To schedule an appointment, call West Central Minnesota Community Action at 1-800-492-4805 extension 100.

If you would like to know more about the work being done locally by the coalition, contact United Way at (320) 763-4840 or visit www.uwdp.org.
