Give blood in January - National Blood Donor Month
Since 1970, January has been designated as National Blood Donor Month.
Since 1970, January has been designated as National Blood Donor Month. This year, the American Red Cross thanks all blood donors for helping ensure a stable blood supply for patients in need both locally and across the country.
The blood supply is particularly vulnerable during the winter months due to inclement weather, seasonal illness and busy holiday schedules.
Following are the upcoming blood donation opportunities:
• Monday, January 24 from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 411 Hawthorne Street in Alexandria.
• Tuesday, January 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria.
• Thursday, January 27 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Armory, 311 Broadway in Alexandria.
Call 1-800-733-2767 or visit www.redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for information.
All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and are generally in good health may be eligible to donate blood.
