Two fires in Douglas County were reported one right after another on Friday, December 31.
The first call happened at 1:05 p.m. The Douglas County Law Enforcement Center received a 911 call of a chimney fire at the Gary and Carol Becker home at 6577 County Road 13 NE.
The Carlos Fire Department and sheriff’s deputies responded and found that the fire had spread outside the chimney into the roof area.
Firefighters quickly contained the blaze and put it out. The residence sustained a moderate amount of damage, according to the sheriff’s office.
Less than 20 minutes after that fire call, law enforcement received a report at 1:23 p.m. of a house fire at the Dennis and Nancy Shores home at 14260 Berg Road, NW, Evansville.
The Shores reported that they were working on a snowmobile in their attached garage and were using a propane-fueled heat source when the garage caught fire.
The flames spread quickly and the house appears to be a total loss, according to the sheriff’s office. No foul play is suspected.
Agencies involved in responding to the fire included the Evansville, Brandon and Ashby fire departments and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
