Through District 206 Community Education, the Alexandria Area Adult Basic Education (ABE) Consortium is partnering with Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) to offer a free pre-healthcare/nursing course at ATCC this winter.
Since this 10-week course is being offered at no cost to the first 20 qualified applicants, early registration is recommended. The registration deadline is January 17.
The course will be held at ATCC on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning January 24 and ending March 30. Course hours are from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
The pre-healthcare/nursing curriculum jointly developed by ATCC and ABE for this course is meant to be a “bridge” between Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) training.
The pre-healthcare/nursing course will help students develop the skills and knowledge essential to succeed in the collegiate academic setting. The curriculum includes medical terminology, basic nursing skills, job shadowing, reading, writing and math for healthcare occupations, as well as information on college nursing programs and healthcare career options.
Organizers say this is an ideal class for someone planning to further education in nursing or another healthcare field. Since the program builds the academic, technical and soft skills of the participants, those who complete the class will not only be better prepared to take college coursework, they will also be better equipped healthcare employees, according to the ATCC.
To register for this course or to get more information, contact Sandy Schroepfer, Alexandria ABE coordinator, at (320) 762-3312, extension 4281 or email@example.com by January 17.
