Alexandria City Council reorganizes boards

The city of Alexandria is gearing up for a new year by reorganizing its boards and commissions.

The city council made several appointments at its December 13 meeting.

Council members will serve on the following boards:

Armory/community center task force (no term) – Elroy Frank.

Budget committee (one-year term) – Dave Benson. Council member Owen Miller made a motion, approved by the council, to change the way the city appoints members to the budget committee. In the past, the newest member of the council was appointed to the budget committee. Now, council members will have to serve at least one year on the council before they serve on the budget committee.

Convention and visitor’s bureau (one-year term) – Virgil Batesole, council member-elect.

Deferred compensation committee (one-year term) – Sara Carlson.

Joint planning board (one-year term) – Benson.

Legislative committee (one-year term) – Elroy Frank and Miller.

Liquor commission (one-year term) – Carlson and Benson.

Planning commission (three-year term) – Frank.

President pro tempore of council, who presides over meetings when the mayor is not present (one-year term) – Carlson.

Runestone Community Center Commission (three-year term) – Frank.

Housing and Redevelopment Authority (one-year term) – Benson.

The city received 25 applications for citizen representatives on various committees and boards. Here are the appointments:

Airport commission (three-year term) – Don Clobes.

Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission Joint Board (three-year term) – Corliss Stark.

Alexandria Lake Area Sanitary District (three-year term) – Paul Nelson.

Board of public works (three-year term) – John Perino and Steve Senden.

Cable TV commission (two-year term) – David Blom and Dave Horning. One more person is needed to fill this board. Those interested should contact Assistant City Administrator Marty Schultz at (320) 763-6678.

Cultural inclusiveness committee (two-year term) – Mary Ann Maameri, Carol Wenner, Debra LeDoux and Julie Critz.

Economic development board (three-year term) – Donald Arm.

Housing and Redevelopment Authority (five-year term) – Evelyn Jensen.

Joint airport zoning board (two-year term) – Paul Nelson.

Park board (three-year term) – Janel Gronholz and Linda Kloubec.

Planning commission (three-year term) – Deb Parrott and Karen Sensac.

Police civil service commission (three-year term) – Don Nolting.

Runestone Community Center Commission (three-year term) – Pat Gustafson and Judy Meyer.

Stormwater management committee (two-year term) – Kevin Risner, Mark West and Tom Klemenhagen.

Tree board (two-year term) – Larry Zilliox.

The city thanked citizen members who voluntarily stepped down from their positions, including Beth Teeuwen from the Cable TV commission; and Jeff James, Herman Felt and Dennis Miller from the stormwater management committee.
