The Douglas County Historical Society is hosting a writers’ contest.
The society is seeking three scripts in which one or more writers will be awarded $1,500 per script.
These writing awards will be paid from a grant that the Douglas County Historical Society received from the Minnesota Historical Society’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund/Legacy Grant program.
The contest entails writers submitting a synopsis on one or all of the three script categories, including the Great Depression, World War II and the post-war economic boom.
Full guidelines and script submission information are available electronically by e-mailing Ann Hermes at lakesareatheatre@gmail.com.
The oral history transcripts on which the scripts will be written are available at the Douglas County Historical Society, 1219 Nokomis Street in Alexandria, or writers may request transcripts via e-mail from Rachel Barduson at bardo@dchsmn.org.
Writers will be allowed access to the recorded oral histories in researching their subjects and topics.
All submissions must be e-mailed to bardo@dchsmn.org by January 7, 2011.
