Guitar workshop set
Taylor Guitars will present a finger-style guitar workshop with guitar virtuoso and Grand Ole Opry favorite Doyle Dykes. The event will be held on Thursday, December 16 at Carlson Music Center, 901 Broadway in Alexandria.
Taylor Guitars will present a finger-style guitar workshop with guitar virtuoso and Grand Ole Opry favorite Doyle Dykes. The event will be held on Thursday, December 16 at Carlson Music Center, 901 Broadway in Alexandria.
The event starts at 6:45 p.m. with refreshments. At 7:30 p.m., Adam Astrup, a 10-year-old guitarist, will perform. He is the son of Mark and Cheryl Astrup of Alexandria.
At 7:40 p.m., Dykes will perform the concert/workshop.
Dykes is a master of inspiring guitarists at all skill levels. According to country music star Chet Atkins, “Doyle is one of the finest finger-picking guitarists around.”
Dykes is influenced by a wide variety of musicians, from Atkins to the rock and roll of Duane Eddy and the Beatles. He has a distinct, recognizable sound that amazes audiences with its skill. His appreciation for various styles of music is reflected in his albums.
Dykes toured with The Stamps Quartet and with Grand Ole Opry Star, Grandpa Jones. He returned to the Grand Ole Opry for numerous performances, many live on national television.
Dykes performs in venues ranging from theaters, bluegrass festivals, churches and major conventions.
He was awarded a brick in the wall of fame at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, England. He has played on stage with Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, Peter Frampton, John Fogarty, Vince Gill and many others. He played a tribute to Atkins at the Grand Ole Opry that aired multiple times on national television.
Tickets for the workshop are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Reservations are recommended.
