Kelly Hilbrands’ Social Studies II class at Jefferson High School (JHS) has organized a unique way to help Special Olympics – the “Alexandria Amazing Race.”
Students have been working on the service-learning project this semester and it will take place this Saturday, December 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The “race around the world of Alexandria” will start at Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) and end at JHS.
Students are looking for 12 community teams to be a part of the event. Teams are made up of four people and the entry fee is $32 for a team.
All the proceeds (and donations) will go to Alexandria Special Olympics.
Teams will compete at five challenge sites, including one outdoor activity, in hopes of taking home “bragging rights,” along with a trophy and championship T-shirt.
A limited number of spots are still available. Contact Sheree Oberg at JHS if you are interested at (320) 762-2142.
If you can’t be part of a team, you’re invited to cheer the participants on at JHS from noon to 1 p.m, as teams finish their last challenge. Tickets are $2.
