Change order approved for police station roofing work

A change order was approved for the Alexandria police station project that will add about $13,440 to the cost of the $5.1 million project.

A change order was approved for the Alexandria police station project that will add about $13,440 to the cost of the $5.1 million project.

The Alexandria City Council approved the change at its November 22 meeting. It will add color to some roof flashing materials that were not included in the bid specifications, said City Administrator Jim Taddei.

The city’s construction management firm, Orb Management, recommended the change order. Because it represented more than 5 percent of the roofing bid, council action was required.

The original contract for the roofing bid awarded to Buttweiler Do-All Inc., was $166,680.

A few months ago, the city reduced that amount by $25,460 so even with the $13,440 add-on, the bid is still about $12,000 less than the original contract, noted council member Owen Miller.
