A 45-year-old woman who escaped from the Douglas County Minimum Security Jail in July is back in custody.
Amy Sue Schaefer was located in a trailer house in Todd County today, Tuesday, and was arrested without incident, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
After her escape on July 23, the sheriff’s office conducted an investigation and believed she had fled the state and was staying with family members in Florida.
On November 20, the Osakis Police Department informed the sheriff’s office that Schaefer possibly gave a false name and date of birth to an Osakis police officer.
The sheriff’s office obtained information about Schaefer’s whereabouts in Todd County.
Today, sheriff’s deputies from both Douglas and Todd County went to a residence in rural Todd County and arrested her.
Schaefer faces charges of escape from custody, a probation violation and giving false information to a police officer. She is currently in the Douglas County Jail awaiting a court appearance.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Osakis Police Department and the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.
