Card boys' cross country team 20th at Nike Heartland regionals

Contributed The Alexandria boys posed for a picture with 2008 Olympic runner Lopez Lomong at the Nike Heartland Regional. Lomong was one of the Lost Boys of Sudan and the flag bearer for the U.S. in the 2008 games.

The Alexandria boys’ cross country team traveled to Sioux Falls on November 14 to take on the best talent in the Midwest at the Nike Cross Nationals Heartland Regional meet at Yankton Trail Park.

The Cardinals were up against 23 of the best teams from Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin with a trip to the Nike National Meet in Portland on the line. Junior Will Sieling led the way as Alexandria finished 20th overall with a combined time of 1:26:16.31. Wayzata won the meet and earned its spot at nationals with a total time of 1:20:52.31.

Sieling finished 39th among individuals racing with teams there. He came across in 16:30.09. Senior Mitch Evink finished second for Alexandria with a time of 17:16.45. Zac Bartolomeo, Zach Hodgson and Jimmy Lovrien rounded out the counted times for Alexandria. Seniors Mitch Ronning and Elijah Hartsell also ran for Alexandria, finishing in 17:44.93 and 17:47.33, respectively.
