Minnewaska's Heieie, WCA's Walters honored
Minnewaska girls' soccer coach and West Central Area's junior high basketball coach were recently honored for their work with their respective teams.
Minnewaska girls’ soccer coach Brian Heieie was named the Section 8A coach of the year after taking the Lakers from a 4-10-1 record in 2009 to a 13-3-2 record in 2010. His team earned the No. 1 seed in the 8A-South.
Heieie has been involved with the girls’ soccer program since its inception in 1996. He has been head coach for the Lakers since 2000. His record is now 78-82-8.
West Central Area junior high basketball coach Randy Walter was recently honored at the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) luncheon for 35 years of high school coaching.
Walter is the boys’ junior high coach for the 2010-2011 season. He began coaching in 1972, but took three years off before returning to the coaching ranks. He has actually coached for 38 years.
