Golf: Dirck named Minnesota PGA Teacher of the Year
Instructing three state champions in the same year – an amazing feat – has brought a special honor for Minnewaska Golf Club pro, Scott Dirck, who was selected as the 2010 Minnesota Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Teacher of the Year.
Instructing three state champions in the same year – an amazing feat – has brought a special honor for Minnewaska Golf Club pro, Scott Dirck, who was selected as the 2010 Minnesota Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Teacher of the Year.
Dirck taught the individual winners in all three classes of the Minnesota State girls’ golf tournament this past spring – Maggie Leland of Alexandria in Class AAA, Sarah Roering of Minnewaska in Class AA (sharing the title with teammate Allie Ostrander) and Kelsey Ross of Osakis in Class A.
The award, presented annually to the individual who is an outstanding teacher of golf among the ranks of the PGA membership, was a well deserved honor for the local golf pro, who had nearly 20 of his students in the boys’ and girls’ ranks compete in this past spring’s state tournaments.
Dirck served as assistant golf pro at the Alexandria Golf Club for eight years before moving to the Minnewaska Golf Club.
He runs the Scott Dirck’s Golf Academy from his house in Alexandria, using radar, video monitors, computer equipment, driving range mats and nets, teaching throughout the winter.
A native of Dawson, Dirck was named a North Central Region Ping Fitter of the Year in 2008, earned for his work fitting clubs.
Dirck attended PGA school at Port St. Lucie, Fla.
