One Voice Mixed Chorus, Minnesota’s gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender (GLBT) and straight allies chorus, will present a concert, “Love Dares Speak its Name,” at Discovery Middle School in Alexandria on Friday, November 12 at 7 p.m.
Through music ranging from Broadway ballads and beloved standards, to brand-new choral premiers, One Voice tells stories of love, long-term relationships and why they matter – regardless of gender.
“Love Dares Speak its Name” celebrates the universality of love, but also makes a powerful case for the need for equality in same-sex relationships. Music selections explore issues of love, relationships and for finding community support for same-sex partnerships.
The concert includes theatrical vignettes by Flower Shop Project actors that focus on the ways GLBT individuals are denied equality in Minnesota. The Flower Shop Project is a Twin Cities-based theater company that has developed a series of these vignettes illustrating the challenges of same-sex relationships.
For 20 years, One Voice Mixed Chorus has united GLBT people and straight allies in working for social change. Its 90 members range in age from 16 to 70.
The concert is an hour long. It is free and open to the public. For information, visit the One Voice website at www.ovmc.org.
