After a long season of construction, County Road 42 re-opened last Friday and with it came a celebration from those who live on or near this lifeline to the community.

When word went out that the road would be opening, some local residents who were at Eddy’s Interlachen Inn for dinner and participants in the Interlachen Idol Competition started talking about celebrating.

By Friday evening, a parade was organized to celebrate the opening of the scenic roadway.

Neighbors and friends who live on and near the passage from Alexandria to Eddy’s Interlachen met at Moore’s Three Havens General Store at 6 p.m., and a few minutes later, the parade began.

The gala was led by Tom and Linda Akenson in their vintage fire engine and about 40 other vehicles joined in, honking their horns and letting everyone know that the road was finally open.

Later, the participants of the parade and others gathered at Interlachen to toast the opening of County Road 42.
