A singer/songwriter, Kakac has been singing and writing music professionally since 1978. Guitar, harmonica and autoharp are her main instruments. Her songs have been used in plays, documentaries, and the PBS documentary Dairy Queens.
Kakac has performed with Garrison Keillor. She has recorded five albums – two solo and three with her former singing partner, Jodi Ritter, as The Granary Girls. Her recordings have been played on radio stations throughout the U.S., as well as New Zealand, Australia, Norway and Sweden.
From 1998 to 2006, Kakac toured as part of The Granary Girls and performed across the Midwest. She has continued singing and writing on her own and since then has performed for Woman Song in North Dakota and other folk venues in Minnesota.
