Paid Political Letter - Vote for candidates who will hold line on taxes

To the editor:
Where do jobs come from? If you don’t work for some government entity or are self-employed, you work for a company. In today’s global economy, companies have global choices of where to locate, and therefore where people will be employed. Ask yourself, if you owned or operated a company faced with a decision of where to locate, would you locate in a state or country where the corporate tax rate is high or where it is low? The latest data (2009) from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development shows that the state of Minnesota has a combined federal and state corporate tax rate of 41.4 percent. In the entire world, considering all of the top 30 industrialized countries of the world and all 50 of our states, this is the second highest tax rate (second only to Pennsylvania by 0.1 percent).
Any tax rate increase in Minnesota will put us in the number-one spot in the entire world. And we wonder why it is so hard to get good paying jobs to come to Minnesota, let alone stay here. Please, only vote for candidates who promise to hold the line on taxes – our jobs depend on it.
