Alexandria Horseshoe League hands out season awards

Garden Center shut out Hensley Inc. to capture the championship in the Alexandria Horseshoe League recently.

Undefeated to that point in the playoffs, Hensley fell to Garden Center 6-2 in the double-elimination tournament, then fell again the second game 8-0.

At their awards banquet, the horseshoe league players received their year-end honors.

Regular season champions were LRHC players Alan Larson and Janet Larson, while Garden Center’s Bob Olson and Ralph Losee finished second. Al Nicholson and Joe Nicholson of Haines Gipson finished third.

J. Larson, Gary Boots, Losee, Rick Branson and Mike Wegener won the singles tournament in their respective classes, with Chuck Betterman being named most improved.

A. Larson had the high ringer average for the year, while Phil Swenson earned patches for high game and high game over average.

Boots was named sportsman of the year and Losee was selected as rookie of the year.
