Area 4-H'ers take part in State Shooting Sports and Wildlife Invitational

The Minnesota 4-H State Shooting Sports and Wildlife Invitational was held in Anoka County September 10-12.

A total of 745 youth from 52 counties participated in the following events: BB gun, standard air rifle, 3 position air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, muzzleloading, trap, silhouette, wildlife calling, skillathon and conservation/wildlife displays.

Youth had the opportunity to showcase skills learned throughout the past year when they spent 15 or more hours working with a trained instructor in their discipline of interest.

The program began in the 1980s and has grown to involve 4,000 4-H’ers and 500 adult leaders.

Douglas County 4-H members participating include the following, listed by club:

Chippewans: O’Ryan Bosek of Garfield, Amanda Schmidt- of Alexandria; Josh Schmidt of Alexandria; Ariel Way of Garfield.

Contenders: Kyle Reed of Osakis.

Hoofbeats: Josh Hedstrom of Alexandria.

Independent: Cody Adolphsen of Villard; Tyler Hellem of Evansville; Christian McGaffey of Brandon; Patrick McGaffey of Brandon; Andrew Rentschler of Alexandria.

Lake Mary Troopers: Darren Radil of Alexandria.

Moe: Hannah Gebhardt of Brandon; Josh Gebhardt of Brandon; Cody Lund of Evansville; Jordan Lund of Evansville; William Schroeder of Brandon.

Spruce Hill Rangers: Brady Hoppe of Carlos; Tyler Hoppe of Carlos; Chris Jorud of Alexandria; Kade Jorud of Alexandria.

Urness: Ashley Fults of Ashby.

Results

Team Junior Archery Class A – 12th place. Members: Chris Jorud (24th place individual), Kade Jorud, Jordan Lund.

Also participating as individuals in Archery were Kyle Reed (3rd place) and Hannah Gebhardt.

Team Senior Archery Class C – 12th place. Members: O’Ryan Bosek, Ashley Fults, Tyler Hoppe, Ariel Way.

Junior BB Gun – Participants: Kyle Reed (12th place), Brady Hoppe, Chris Jorud and Kade Jorud.

Intermediate BB Gun – Participant: was Hannah Gebhardt.

Silhouette-Rifle – Participants: Kade Jorud (21st place), Christian McGaffey, William Schroeder, Andrew Rentschler, Chris Jorud and Patrick McGaffey.

Team Intermediate Trap – 1st place. Members: Cody Lund (3rd place individual), Christian McGaffey (16th place individual), Patrick McGaffey, Andrew Rentschler (6th place individual), William Schroeder.

Team Senior Trap A – 3rd place. Members: O’Ryan Bosek, Joshua Gebhardt (16th place individual), Darren Radil, Amanda Schmidt (24th place individual), Joshua Schmidt (10th place individual).

Team Senior Trap B – 18th place. Members: Cody Adolphsen, Joshua Hedstrom, Tyler Hellem, Ariel Way (21st place individual).
