Paid Political Letter - Time to elect first-time candidates

If you care about the environment and the quality of life in Minnesota, you will vote for Jim Thoreen – State Senate District 11; Bennett Smith – House District 11A; and Amy Hunter – House District 11B.

To the editor:

If you care about the environment and the quality of life in Minnesota, you will vote for Jim Thoreen – State Senate District 11; Bennett Smith – House District 11A; and Amy Hunter – House District 11B.

The District 11 incumbents, Ingebrigtsen and Westrom, have voted against bills to improve the lives of Minnesota citizens, including the Omnibus Budget bill, the General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC) Program, the Health Care Reform Bill, the Omnibus Health and Human Services Bill, the minimum wage increase and economic development bills.

Westrom voted against restrictions on phosphates in fertilizer in 2002 and against Outdoors and Arts Dedicated funding in the 2008 session, during which he compared the DNR to a “Gestapo-type of agency.”

The wrong-headed votes of these incumbents will harm our state’s most valuable resources (the environment and workers) and our state’s most vulnerable (the sick and the elderly).

It’s time to bring a fresh perspective, honesty, integrity and wisdom to our Legislature. It’s time to elect first-time candidates Jim Thoreen, Bennett Smith and Amy Hunter: candidates in the tradition of our beloved Senator Dallas Sams and our retiring Representative Mary Ellen Otremba.
