The singles and doubles portion of the Section 8AA tournament went well for Alexandria on Saturday as the Cardinals advanced all of their individuals to the second round.

Rachel Astrup made things look easy in a win over Molly Koester of Little Falls. Astrup won 6-0, 6-1. Jenna Galstad had to work a little harder to get her win over Amy Frosaker of Bemidji. The two went just two sets but Galstad needed a tiebreaker in the second to win 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Kristen Schmidt and Ellie Bergstrand locked up in a back-and-forth battle with their opponents from Moorhead in the doubles competition. Schmidt and Bergstrand dropped the first set before forcing a third with a tiebreaker win over Layne Meyer and Lizzy Ross in the second. The Cardinal duo then persevered for a 6-4 win in the third to take the match. Brianna Ebert and Rebecca Lukes took care of things in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the second round, which was scheduled to play yesterday, Tuesday, at Golds Gym in Sartell.
