A 20-year Clarissa man and a 19-year Alexandria woman are in custody after a chase Thursday night in Alexandria.
Shortly after 10 p.m., a deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a moving violation near the Viking Plaza Mall.
The driver of the vehicle, Coty Allen Kremer of Clarissa, didn’t stop and a short pursuit began, according to the sheriff’s office.
Kremer reportedly drove around the Viking Plaza Mall parking lot, onto South Broadway and then eastbound on 34th Avenue.
He then entered the parking lot at Pheasant Run Apartments on 34th Avenue and proceeded to the north end. Once there, the vehicle jumped the curb and drove across the lawn in attempt to elude the deputy.
The pursuit then ended along the west side of the apartment complex with the vehicle coming to a stop. However, Kremer and his passenger, Amanda Lee Dawson of Alexandria, fled the scene on foot.
According to the sheriff’s office, a nearby bystander tackled the male suspect. The female suspect was located a short time later in an apartment in the building complex.
Both suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Douglas County Jail.
Kremer is being held on charges of driving while intoxicated, felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, reckless/careless driving, fleeing a peace officer on foot, criminal damage to property, minor consumption of alcohol and a speed violation.
Dawson is being held for fleeing a peace officer on foot.
