The Four Freshmen will appear in Alexandria as the second concert in the Central Lakes Concert Association (CLCA) concert series. The performance is set for Sunday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Jefferson High School gym in Alexandria.
The Four Freshmen is a vocal four-part harmony quartet. The current members are Brian Eichenberger, Curtis Calderon, Vince Johnson and Bob Ferreira.
The group was founded in 1948 at Butler University in Indianapolis as Hal’s Harmonizers, a barbershop quartet. The group soon adopted a more jazz-oriented repertoire and renamed themselves the Toppers. In September of 1948, the quartet went on the road as The Four Freshmen and drew the admiration of jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie and Woody Herman.
In their 60-plus-year history, the Four Freshmen have produced more than 50 albums, 70 top-selling singles and earned six Grammy nominations.
