St. Cloud State sophomore golfer Gordy Diekman (Alexandria) played three rounds of below par golf and won the NSIC/RMAC Regional Crossover tournament played Sunday and Monday at the Wild Horse Golf Club in Gothenburg, Neb.
The tournament consisted of 36 holes of play on Sunday and 18 holes on Monday. Diekman started the tournament with a three under par 69, then shot a 70 on the first day. He came back with a final round 70 for a 54-hole total of 209 to win the tournament by two strokes. His effort helped the Huskies to a fifth place team finish. It marked his best individual performance as Husky and is one of the best by any SCSU player in recent history. Chad Novak of Colorado State University-Pueblo finished two strokes back of Diekman with a score of 70-71-70=211.
Alexandrian Jesse Hafdal finished tied for 28th at 70-81-72-223.
As a team, St. Cloud State finished fifth with a score of 886, posting rounds of 294-300-292.
