Sears may come to the old downtown Wadena SuperOne, according to economic development director Dean Uselman.
“I’ve been in contact with a person who is interested in opening a Sears store in Wadena and have been communicating with them for a number of months, and they’re getting pretty close to negotiating a contract or a lease agreement with the owner of the SuperOne store,” he said.
Uselman said the potential business owner had first contacted him in November 2009 and was hoping to open for spring of 2011, but nothing is certain. If and when the store opens, it would probably create three full-time jobs and two or three part-time jobs along with possible seasonal positions, he said.
Uselman said that if the negotiations work out, the Wadena location would be a Sears Hometown Store consisting mostly of appliances, electronics, lawn and garden, hardware and tools. He said it would be similar to the Sears stores in Little Falls and Detroit Lakes.
