Alexandria's Feldmann finalist for Special Olympics North America 2010 Coach of the Year
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. – Sept. 24, 2010 – Carol Feldmann of Alexandria, Minn. has been selected as a finalist for the Special Olympics North America 2010 Coach of the Year Award. The annual award is given to a Special Olympics coach in North America who exceed the highest standard of excellence through innovative leadership while serving as a role model and mentor to Special Olympics athletes and coaches alike.
Feldmann, a retired teacher, has been a Special Olympics volunteer for more than 30 years. Her coaching roles include basketball, track and field, bowling, golf, tennis and swimming. Her passion for the organization drove her to start the Alexandria Lakes Area Special Olympics Minnesota team.
There were 14 coaches nominated for the award from all over the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Feldmann joined four other finalists: Paul Wagner of Wisconsin, Lisa Hughey of Georgia, Richard Addison of New York and Bobbi Wigand of Florida.
Nanci Martin, a Vancouver native representing Special Olympics British Columbia was selected as Special Olympics North America 2010 Coach of the Year. The Selection Committee was comprised of former coaches and sport leaders inside and outside Special Olympics.
