The Alexandria chapter of the Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) will host a “Walk for Life” pro-life rally and walk on Sunday, October 17.
The Alexandria City Council was informed of the event at its September 13 meeting and approved the group’s plans.
Organizers have not yet finalized the route of the rally and walk.
It will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. and begin with a 30-minute rally at a local church, according to Nevin Smith Jr., chair of the event. Several pastors will speak and pray with those who gather.
Participants will then walk on sidewalks from the rally point, along Broadway and then over to the Douglas County Courthouse.
A time of prayer will take place on the courthouse steps and participants will walk back to the rally point.
The entire rally and walk should take less than two hours, Smith said.
As many as 1,000 people are expected to attend.
Smith said the event will be publicized and organizers will try to notify downtown merchants.
No streets will be blocked off.
Organizers said they would notify the city and the police department about the final route when it’s determined.
