The Echo Press’ third annual “Strike Out Illiteracy” bowling tournament at Garden Center Lanes Thursday was a smashing success, raising more than $4,000 to provide newspapers free of charge in area classrooms as part of the Newspapers in Education program. Twenty-nine teams bowled three games. Taking advantage of “no tap” rules, a select few bowlers rolled perfect 300 games – including Diann Rolin (left), who received hugs from her teammates with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office after she completed 12 strikes in a row.
