The Alexandria swimming and diving team got its first win of the season last Thursday as it edged Rocori 94-92 at the Discovery Middle School pool.

The Cardinals and Spartans battled down to the wire before Alexandria could breathe easy with the win. Rocori won the final event, the 400-freestyle relay, but it wasn’t enough as Elizabeth Burnham, Ellen Johnson, Dana Reis and Rachel Peterson finished second to secure the team win.

Alexandria had seven first-place finishes on the night. Rosey Erickson (50 freestyle, 26.50; 100 butterfly, 1:09.13) and Megan Bristow (200 IM, 2:35.35; 100 breaststroke, 1:18.04) each had two. Sarah Sater won the diving competition with 191.65 points and Kali Bowser won the 100 backstroke in 1:11.57 to wrap up the individual titles. The 200-freestyle relay team of Erickson, Sater, Burnham and Peterson also won in a time of 1:51.83.

The Cardinals saw 13 improvements against the Spartans. The biggest of those came from Jaylen Olson-Rodel, who sliced four seconds off her 100-butterfly time, and Zoe Weltzin when she took three seconds off her 100 backstroke.

The win moved Alexandria to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the Central Lakes Conference.
